The Floral Hive Design Company

The Floral Hive Design Company is full of honey nectar pods that meld together with artsy floral aspirations for clientele, philanthropy, and golden community blending.

Each of their initiatives is a pod of a different honey color, but the sweetness of their endeavors is balanced on one palate.

“It’s about the honey and the honeycomb itself. We can have our own little honeycombs within the hive. We can have our own little sectors where we do non-profit and philanthropic events, but we also do markets, weddings, and events. It all comes together,” Lauren said.

Lauren Landry is the owner/ artesian florist of The Floral Hive Design Company. Her and her fellow floral artisan/ partner, Janee Autin, have been a two-bee colony for almost four years.

Janee was one of Lauren’s first brides to trust her with an obscure bridal bouquet vision before they became an alliance of artful wedding and event florals.

“All I needed was a bridal bouquet and Lauren came through because I had no idea of anything I wanted. Lauren blew my mind,” Janee said.

The two were in and out of each other’s lives like bees that come to-and-fro amongst a garden. Finally, they fully connected through a plea of assistance from Lauren via a social media post.

“I haven’t mentored with anyone other than Lauren and we just flow so well together. We complement each other’s styles so perfectly. We just balance each other,” Janee stated.

Since then, the two have honey dipped and drizzled togetherness and joy over weddings, market event(s), and the overall community.

“The market is a great example of our brand. We love the idea of local artisans and having those different little pods and unique things about themselves. Just having them come together in this beautiful artful community,” Lauren stated.

The Floral Hive had their inaugural market this past May on Saturday the 11th. The Mother’s Day Market included an array of vendors that offered custom gifts that honey glazed in rarity. The event also included cups of unique blooms (provided by Floral Hive) that were being served along with cups of coffee to sip while shopping for Mother’s Day gifts (or for yourself).

“This is what we wanted…to help and support those other local businesses. We’re excited to announce and discuss how we will incorporate more markets throughout the years and seasons,” Lauren said.

“I love the comradery. I love bringing the community together,” she added with passion.

Floral Hive’s kinship and positivity philosophy sweetly drips onto the community and into the blossomy scented air.

“We did an installation (floral backdrop) for Downtown Thibodaux for the Spring Arts Walk Market. We like being in the community as much as possible,” Lauren stated.

One of their philanthropic pods is honeyed with the attendance of Flower Fest located in Baton Rouge (at Pointe-Marie). The festival is Floral Hive’s largest non-profit event benefitting St. Jude’s children. The three-day festival opens with a gala. You then enter days filled with themed floral installations (arches, walls, etc.) and a dreamy event aiding children’s wishes of wellness.

“This is something we are on the board of, and we are going on our fourth year. The festival is only five years old, and we’ve been a part of it since their second year. We just keep growing with it every year and we love it,” Lauren said.

Lauren’s honeycomb started to build and floret with each pod of passion when she experienced loss.

“I picked this up after my Aunt Jane suddenly passed years ago. I just kept at it and couldn’t put it down,” Lauren said.

“I ended up freelancing for some well-established names in New Orleans years ago and they kept doing these massive installations and I couldn’t get enough being on those big projects. It was more of a design realm instead of a conveyor belt design,” she added.

Floral Hive is not a retail florist, but studio based (by appointment only/ booking). They create whimsical floral fantasies such as flowery billow clouds above the dance floor. Their flower arrangements are elegantly eccentric with enchanting fairy-like bows to nature.

“I feel like people should have fun with florals. If you want a flower cloud over your dance floor at your wedding, let’s do it,” Lauren stated.

“We Just wanted to offer that unique experience of getting florals custom made to whatever your likeness is. That bodes to who my grandmother, my aunt and my mother who were the flower women in my life. That bodes to who they are: unapologetically beautiful, wonderful, and sweet women,” Lauren added.

Much of Lauren’s greenery pieces come from her grandma’s backyard. The nod to nostalgic nature is noted with organic ombres within the creations.

Lauren also fondly forages for unique textures that “play” within a placement/ arrangement. Opulence also stems from the arrangements that have been requested or fostered.

“Flowers are a luxury that everyone should have attainable to them and in a custom beautiful, curated way. Even the saddest events that flowers typically go to; the florals are for joy…for the memory. The florals are for holding that space for joy to remind you to appreciate and have that joyful moment. That’s why I love florals. It’s not meant to be a forever thing, it’s meant to be a reminder of an expression of joy,” Lauren said with heart.

Budgets for weddings/ events are always respected and discussed. Lauren will help eliminate unneeded extra costs to help bring possible Dahlia dreams into flowery fruition.

“What do you not need? What are some of the off the wall things you want? Even if the budget guidelines don’t quite meet up to get everything, let us work it for you. Let’s do something where all your photos are targeted,” Lauren stated.

“I will give you assurance that everything will be taken care of and done beautifully,” she added with confidence.

The Floral Hive is an on-site full-service installation by Lauren and Janee. With abstract abilities, they furnish botanical beauty across South Louisiana (occasionally traveling to different states, etc.).

When the two-bee team is situated in their “honeycomb” workspace, community ambitions are continuously worked into their “hive”.

“We’re primarily weddings and events, whether that would be large scale or small scale, but we do other things that intertwine in the community, like doing floral installations for arts markets or hosting markets. We are also offering subscription services to the community," Lauren said.

To stay interwoven in the surrounding area, they produce different “honey shades” that coincide with community. Right now, they are offering a subscription service for local businesses.

“It’s a subscription service to say thank you to referrals or clients. They would report their numbers every month and we would create and deliver in-season ingredients list of beautiful arrangements to a place of their choice. We would do this monthly for them so they wouldn’t have to think about it,” Lauren stated.

Lauren’s devotion to the community is one pod filled with buttery benevolence. Her passion for floral artistry climbs like honeysuckle over the whole “hive” and pods within. Adoration for the exchange of joy has created blooming arrangements that all dance to their own tune (upon the reception floor).

“My favorite flower changes every single week. I think every flower should be appreciated. The thing that catches my eye is when a flower has individuality. For instance, a flower has a curvy neck and it’s like he’s doing a little dance…I love that,” Lauren said with glee.

Every day, Lauren and Janee grasp the metaphorical honey dipper that represents their company. They dip, spin, and softly pour out joy over every bridal client/ clientele and every communal aspect of their company.

“The goal at the end of the day we like curating these individual custom pieces for people. For example, to get pictures back of your bride walking through the space and seeing a Maypole of florals on her ceiling and she appears to be jaw-dropped. That’s it! That’s joy! That is what we want,” Lauren said with excitement.

“The honey from the dipper is basically the joy…the exchange I’m trying to do. I love making that custom bit so someone else gets that level of joy,” she ended.

Along with offering corporate subscription services, Floral Hive also rents out their space to local photographers. Their building offers picturesque seating and quaint areas to snap seasonal minis while protected from the elements. More information can be found on their website about renting out the space and other offers.
